Stormy Sunday

North Avoca Sunrise

I was driving to North Avoca for sunrise this morning, looking at the thick cloud and not expecting much. When I arrived however there was thinner cloud on the horizon and my hopes for a nice sunrise went back up!

I waited patiently and as the sun came up the colours were stunning...deep oranges and reds rose from the horizon, providing a great contrast to the thick clouds everywhere else. As the sun got higher it shot rays in every direction, as you can see in the image below.

The sun began to hide behind the clouds so I turned my attention to the surf. The swell had picked up over the last couple of days and there were some sizey waves breaking just off the point. The wash was bouncing back off the cliff creating some crazy backwash, providing some interesting shots. The wave in the shot below shot was huge!

The morning still had more in store, with a storm blowing up from the south. As the front arrived the sun did its best to shoot some rays from behind, giving me just enough time to shoot the panorama below. The rain moved in quickly and that was my sign to retreat to the car and review my images. Very happy to capture a variety of conditions all in the one morning!
